Covering more than 700 acres, this recreation area provides plenty of opportunities for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you want to go for a hike, take a bike ride, or simply sit and take in the views from one of the many scenic overlooks, you can do it all in this beautiful space.
If you are planning on hiking or taking a bike ride, you can enter the natural area at one of three different trailheads. The trailheads are easy to access and all have parking spaces available, meaning that you can pull right in and start hiking right away without having to spend a lot of extra time making your way to the trailhead.
If you want to be challenged, consider checking out the Lower Purgatory trailhead that starts just off of Hunter Road. This area features single-track trails that are still left in their natural state. That means that people using the trail have to do their best to avoid obstacles like rocks and tree roots, increasing the difficulty for mountain bikers and runners alike.
Other trails throughout the area are more well-developed, making them ideal for people who are interested in taking casual hikes or leisurely bike rides.
There are a lot of birds living in the area, as well, making it a great place to visit if you enjoy bird watching. Don’t forget to bring along your field guide and your binoculars. If you want, you can even bring a small sketchbook so that you can draw pictures of the various birds that you see along the way. Of course, if you are feeling a little bit more high-tech, you can bring a camera to capture photos, instead.
